IPA Snapshot--Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin

by Ryan Gerstel
Availability: Year-round

Ballast Point Brewing Company's newest addition to their renowned Sculpin lineup comes in the form of Pineapple Sculpin; an India Pale Ale brewed with sweet and juicy pineapple.

Many craft beers fans, particularly those that gravitate towards IPAs, have tried Ballast Point's  Sculpin and Grapefruit Sculpin. Both brews are two of the best IPAs on the market, and Pineapple Sculpin continues furthers that legacy with delicious fashion.

Like the other Sculpins, Pineapple Sculpin pours crisp and clear golden hue with a thick foam head that quickly dissipates after initial pour.

If you're a fan of pineapple, the aroma will have your mouth watering. Pineapple Sculpin features an extremely pungent and sweet pineapple scent that can be identified immediately, even before the beer is fully poured.

However, the taste is not nearly as pineapple-dominated as the aroma suggests. Initially, there is a sweet malt flavor containing hints of pineapple. Juicy hop bitterness consumes the initial pineapple flavor and results in a pleasant dry finish to this excellent take on a fruit-flavored IPA.

For craft drinkers who were worried about Ballast Point's increase in flavored beer production after their billion-dollar deal with Constellation (aka Corona), you can rest assured knowing that Pineapple Sculpin is an excellent addition to the Sculpin lineup and the IPA market.

  1. I enjoyed this enough to regret that I did not get more when I had the chance!
